Venus Mohs

Venus Mohs is a multidisciplinary artist from Bogota, Colombia. Their work consists of physical manifestations of emotion and memory in video, painting and installation work. Venus is interested in illegibility and abstraction, the eroticism of pushing an image so far that it becomes unrecognizable and stripped down to the point where only feeling and catharsis remain.
The Whale
“The Whale” is a poetic multimedia work that deals in prose that is deliberately opaque and protective of its own words. An embroidered triptych in fine mesh, it acts as a sea of language, something to swim through, something that envelops you, something to exist in or with rather than read. Text is not individual words, but the bigger picture, the excess of it. A surface, a texture, words you can hold in your hand. It shields itself through specificity and hides in its explicitness, buried beneath the abundance of letters are confrontational details. The Whale explores what it means to read and “be read,” and what it means to write as a ritual of devotion to being understood, with fabric as skin and words as permanent marks on a formless body.
